my poetry

You can see my most current poems here.

I found out a few years ago that I love poetry. It's good for my soul. Then I tried my hand at writing it myself and discovered that, too, was good for me.

To finish a poem, to put down what I'm seeing and feeling, to praise God, to lay my burdens before Him in poetic form, is balm to my sometimes aching soul and spirit.

In 2008 I won first place in a local writing contest with this poem. I submitted it on a whim and was pretty shocked it won. But it was very encouraging and I've been writing poetry off and on since.

I've been greatly inspired by Robert Brewer at Poetic Asides. There you can find weekly prompts and, if you're like me and have no idea how to actually write poetry, information and examples of different poetic forms. He also runs two great monthly poetry challenges in April and November. Stop by. It's a great little community.

And here are links to my favorites. They are not polished at all, but are the ones that mean the most to me.
