Ho-hum. This is one of those audio books that I probably should have turned off. I considered it at about disc 6 (there were 11) but thought I had too much time invested. And I hoped it would get better.
A good point: one of the characters had Turner's Syndrome which I had never heard of and it was interesting to learn of it. One review I read was by a woman with Turner's and she said the author did a good job of portraying what the disease is about and what it's like to live with it.
So, why didn't I like it? A mother who is controlling and destroys her marriage out of jealousy of a husband who is never actually unfaithful. A husband who is totally, totally self-absorbed. A son who is a successful cardiologist and lives a homosexual lifestyle unbeknownst to his family. A second son who is a failure in life, marries a woman who is in love with her step-brother, and fathers two children with her. The only character that was in any way healthy and likable was the daughter with Turner's syndrome.
One star because I finished it. The second because of the interesting information about Turner's.
Oh - Jennifer Van Dyck did a good job reading the novel.
Can't say I recommend this one, bloggy friends. If I had had another audio book to pop in my cd player, I probably would have given up on this one before it was finished.
Good news: stopped by the library yesterday and checked out a new stash of audio books!
