5th Grade Five Word Monologue

Another entry for this week's words! And a poem at that!

Room 352 (Hibernation, Mercy, Updating, Translator, Guile)

Their eyes locked for a moment,
Not more than 30 seconds
But enough for a lifetime to be lived.

He wondered if she could read his mind
As a flood of hibernating memories
Rushed from deep within his heart,

Scattering around the room
Like glass marbles with swirls
Of colors locked inside them.

He wanted to tell her that he
Had fathered 4 children
And loved a wife for 57 years.

A former military man who had
Translated the secrets that wars
And battle plans were made of.

How guilefully it overtook him,
Without mercy for the man who
Lived beneath the outer shell,

Who now sat drooling before
The young nurse, unable to answer the
Simple questions to update his record.

She tilted her head to the left while
Holding his gaze, almost as if she heard
The memories his eyes told her.

He tried to speak, but the words stuck
In his throat with only a guttural moan
Escaping through his rigid mouth.

The moment was shattered, the lifetime lived.
She looked at his chart and he was once again
The man with Parkinson’s in Room 352.

The letter S is stuck on using numbers in her titles...nothing else seemed to come to mind.
